Real Estate Accountant

Weaving Baskets Group is a dynamic asset management firm specializing in real estate investment, development, and operations. Based in Cornwall, ON, we manage a diverse portfolio of commercial and residential properties. We are seeking a detail-oriented Real Estate Accountant to join our team and play a critical role in maintaining the financial health of our real estate holdings.

Job Summary:

The Real Estate Accountant will be responsible for the financial operations of our property portfolio, including tenant reconciliations, CAM (Common Area Maintenance) reporting, HST filings, and year-end financial reporting. This role will also include processing AP/AR, managing financial records, and preparing P&L statements for individual properties.

This is a full-time, in-person position (40 hours per week) at our Cornwall office. The ideal candidate is well-versed in real estate accounting and thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Tenant Reconciliations – Ensure accurate tracking and reconciliation of rent, CAM charges, and other recoverable expenses.
  • CAM Reporting – Prepare and review annual CAM reconciliations and budget-to-actual comparisons for tenants.
  • HST Filings – Prepare and file accurate HST returns in compliance with tax regulations.
  • Year-End Financial Reporting – Assist in preparing financial statements and coordinating with external accountants for year-end reporting.
  • Accounts Payable (AP) & Accounts Receivable (AR) – Process invoices, payments, and collections related to property management.
  • Financial Reporting – Prepare monthly and quarterly P&L statements for individual properties.
  • Lease Accounting – Review lease agreements and ensure proper revenue recognition in accordance with lease terms.
  • Budgeting & Forecasting – Assist in preparing property budgets and financial projections.
  • General Ledger Management – Maintain and reconcile accounts, ensuring accuracy in financial records.
  • Compliance & Tax Filings – Support regulatory compliance, tax filings, and financial audits.
  • Collaboration – Work closely with property managers, tenants, and leadership to ensure smooth financial operations.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in real estate or property management.
  • Experience with HST filings and year-end financial reporting.
  • Strong knowledge of real estate accounting principles, including CAM reconciliations and lease accounting.
  • Proficiency in accounting software (QuickBooks, Yardi, MRI, or similar platforms).
  • Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, financial modeling, data analysis).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Pay: $59,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
